Advanced Image Processing
Traditional 2D gel analysis
packages require time consuming and tedious manual
corrections of spot detection and matching, adding
significantly to the time you need to analyze an experiment.
With Delta2D, any "spot painting" or "trimming" by hand is
obsolete. Spot matching, one of the major bottlenecks in
traditional packages, works automatically and reliably since
corresponding spots already have the same position on all
gels after warping.
Defining a warping strategy
allows for easy organization of the whole set of warpings
needed to analyze your project. Read more about Warping
Strategies
Background in the gel images is computed automatically using
a very reliable image-region approach. Delta2D can cope with
inhomogeneous and strong backgrounds. You can check the
background detection by displaying the gel image with and
without background, or by showing only the background image.
With
image fusion you get a
synthetic image that is a pixel-by-pixel combination of a
whole stack of gels. The result looks like a real gel image,
making it perfect for combining replicate gels into one
average image or visualizing analysis results.
Delta2D supports virtually all scanners and imagers on the
market today, with image formats including TIFF, IMG, GEL,
and JPEG. Scanner-specific grayscale calibrations used in
the images are taken into account when spot quantitation is
performed.

Combine images
Delta2D's proprietary image fusion lets you
create proteome maps from collections of 2D
gel images. A proteome map looks like a real gel but
shows all spots on a single image — even those that
will never be expressed at the same time. You can
collect protein identifications on the map and then
use Delta2D to automatically and reliably transfer
them to new gels. Gel images can also be merged into
an average image which combines replicates
pixel-by-pixel. Read more about
Proteome Maps. |

Model spots to mimic the protein migration
process
Spot modelling replaces the pixel based
spot outlines by modelled spot boundaries. The
applied model simulates the protein migration
process in 2D gel electrophoresis and creates much
more realistic spot detection and spot cluster
separation results. |

Color spots according to their expression
profiles.
The larger an experimental design, the higher the
analytical complexity. Spot color coding
condenses whole experiment expression profiles by
using different colors in just one gel image. This
simplifies extraction of the really interesting
spots. |
